Indonesia’s Directorate General of Immigration enforces streamlined entry protocols to welcome international tourists across major gateways including Bali (DPS), Jakarta (CGK), Surabaya (SUB), and Lombok (LOP). Understanding entry classifications is vital for hassle-free travel across the archipelago.
Whether visiting for cultural leisure, eco-tourism, or family visits, foreign passport holders must secure an appropriate visa classificationβranging from Visa on Arrival (VOA / e-VOA) and ASEAN Visa Exemption to single-entry Tourist Visas (B213).
The Visa on Arrival (VOA) and electronic Visa on Arrival (e-VOA) represent the primary entry pathway for tourists from over 90 eligible nations, including Australia, Japan, South Korea, Malaysia, Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) member states, European nations, and the Americas.
Under regional reciprocity agreements, passport holders from ASEAN member nations enjoy visa-free entry to Indonesia for tourism purposes. This policy is designed to foster seamless regional mobility across Southeast Asia.
Citizens of Malaysia, Singapore, Thailand, Philippines, Vietnam, Brunei Darussalam, Laos, Myanmar, and Cambodia are granted visa exemption upon presenting a valid passport and onward ticket.
Visa exemption stays are valid for up to 30 days. Crucially, visa-exempt entries **cannot be extended** beyond 30 days and cannot be converted into any other visa stay permit.
For foreign travelers planning extended exploration beyond the standard 30-to-60-day VOA threshold, the Indonesian government offers the Single Entry Tourist Visa (Visitor Visa B213 / C1). This visa must be applied for online prior to departing for Indonesia.
Grants an initial stay period of 60 days starting from the date of immigration entry.
Can be extended twice for 60 days per extension, enabling a continuous legal stay in Indonesia of up to 180 days without leaving the country.
In addition to immigration clearance, all arriving foreign passengers must complete an electronic customs declaration (e-CD / Electronic Customs Declaration) mandated by the Indonesian Directorate General of Customs and Excise.
Failure to comply with fundamental document criteria will result in immediate boarding refusal by airlines or entry denial at Indonesian immigration checkpoints.
The Visa on Arrival (VOA and e-VOA) is valid for 30 days upon entry into Indonesia. It can be extended once for an additional 30 days at an immigration office or online via the official e-VOA portal, granting a total stay of up to 60 days.
All foreign travelers must hold a passport with a minimum validity of 6 months from the date of arrival in Indonesia, along with a confirmed return or onward flight ticket.
The e-CD is a mandatory digital customs declaration form that all arriving international passengers must fill out online prior to or upon arrival at major Indonesian international airports.
Passport holders from ASEAN member states (including Malaysia, Singapore, Thailand, Philippines, Vietnam, Brunei, Laos, Myanmar, and Cambodia) can enter Indonesia visa-free for tourism stays up to 30 days (non-extendable).
